Testimonials

I learnt to drive with Gemini Driving Academy over a period of 5 months – I passed both the theory and practical test first time. I found Francis professional, patient and highly knowledgeable in all areas; the part that I most liked about my tuition was that I was taught to drive; not just taught to pass the practical test. I was meticulously tutored on all the individual skills that are required to become a good, and most importantly, safe driver and the special rate that was available for a block booking of 10 lessons also enabled me to save money. I would highly recommend Francis and Gemini to those looking not only to learn to drive, but to also enjoy driving.

Best wishes, Lee

I started my driving lessons with francis just over 3 months ago, i think i was very lucky to find the right instructor 1st time around and also at the right price with the guaranteed pass course that francis offers. I found francis to be highly professional and also very friendly, which i think helped me to pass 1st time which i was extremely pleased with. I would recommend anyone to use francis as their driving instructor.

Thank you francis Tammy

Learner drivers to face four-part test

Learner drivers will have to complete four separate stages – including two practical tests – to gain a licence under plans unveiled by the Government.

Proposals to split the on-road exam into two represent the biggest overhaul of the driving test in more than 50 years. Other proposals include making driving instructors publish their pass rates on an official website, Candidates would also be expected to present a "readiness certificate" before taking the test itself, making a total of four stages with a tougher theory test and two practical exams. Splitting the practical test into two is likely to mean an increased fee, although the Department for Transport (DfT) was unable to put a figure on what this might be. Candidates would also be expected to present a "readiness certificate" before taking the test itself, making a total of four stages with a tougher theory test and two practical exams. Splitting the practical test into two is likely to mean an increased fee, although the Department for Transport (DfT) was unable to put a figure on what this might be. Instead they have chosen to focus on the test itself, aiming to raise the quality of the next generation of drivers. The plan to split the driving test – which currently costs £56.50 – will be the most controversial of the proposals, The second, lasting at least half an hour, would assess "real life" driving, with candidates being given fewer "turn by turn" instructions than in the current test they could be told to follow road signs to a destination, Candidates could take both practical tests on the same day if they wished. Motorists failing the manoeuvre test would still be free to take the on-the-road test but would have to re-sit the exam they had failed before gaining a licence. For the revised, tougher theory test, there would no longer be a published list of likely questions and answers – making it harder to pass by rote learning, Candidates could also be asked how they would react in certain situations,The "test readiness" certificate and other reforms are designed to ensure that fewer unprepared candidates put themselves forward. The pass rate is currently just 44 per cent. Other changes are expected to include driving instruction being included as part of vocational training offered to teenagers who stay at school beyond the age of 17. He said: "We need young drivers to gain more experience while they are learning and so are happy with the idea of creating a culture of extended and advanced learning, However, the decision not to impose restrictions on newly qualified drivers was attacked by the Driving Instructors Association, Stephen Picton, editor of the trade magazine Driving Instructor, said: "By placing the emphasis on reforming the testing rather than the training process for learner drivers, this increasingly lame Government is placing popular decision making before lives,

The Main changes to the driving test

  • Practical test to be split into two — one for manoeuvres and one for “independent driving”
  • Candidates will be told to follow signs, rather than be given turn-by-turn guidance
  • Candidates will have to earn a “test readiness certificate” before taking practical tests
  • Tougher theory test — questions and answers will no longer be published
  • Driving instructors’ pass rates could be published on government-sponsored website
  • Lessons to include night-time and bad-weather driving
  • Creation of a vocational qualification in driving skills
